The coat of arms was originally approved for the 104th Engineer Regiment on 19 June 1924. It was redesignated for the 104th Engineer Battalion on 30 June 1942. It was redesignated for the 104th Armored Engineer Battalion on 2 August 1949. The insignia was redesignated for the 104th Engineer Battalion on 5 July 1961. It was rescinded/cancelled on 2 February 2015.
